The fine for picking the endemic plant that grows only in Tunceli is 387 thousand liras

Found in the nature of Tunceli and classified as a natural flower bulb, Tunceli mountain garlic is listed in the "Red Data Book of Turkish Plants" as a vulnerable species due to it being an endemic species.

Due to its uncontrolled harvesting from nature for commercial purposes, the harvesting of Tunceli mountain garlic—which is an endangered species—from protected areas such as national parks, nature parks, nature reserves, and pastures is prohibited.

In order to ensure the sustainability of biological diversity and within the scope of protecting endangered or rare plant and animal species, the trade of Tunceli mountain garlic is also prohibited under Environmental Law No. 2872, and those who pick it are subject to an administrative fine of 387 thousand 141 liras. The feature that distinguishes Tunceli mountain garlic from other garlic and onion varieties is that it blooms and produces seeds. For this reason, its easiest method of reproduction can only occur through seeds. Harvesting it, especially during its flowering periods, can cause the Tunceli mountain garlic species to become endangered or go extinct.

Stating that the harvesting and sale of Tunceli mountain garlic for commercial purposes is prohibited, authorities note that it is important to be aware that the retail and wholesale of the product will not be permitted.
