Warning from AKOM for Istanbul: Downpours and storms to intensify Friday morning

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has issued a new warning regarding the rainy weather affecting the city. According to the warning, the intermittent rainfall in Istanbul is expected to intensify starting at 08:00 on Friday.

According to AKOM's assessment, the precipitation may occur as strong thunderstorms at times throughout the day across the province. The wind is also expected to reach storm force, blowing at speeds of 40-70 kilometers per hour.

The statement indicated that temperatures are expected to remain in the 18-20 degree range. Authorities pointed out the need to be cautious, especially against sudden downpours and strong winds.

According to forecasts from the General Directorate of Meteorology, intermittent showers and thunderstorms are also expected across the Marmara Region. The rainfall is expected to be locally heavy in the eastern parts of Kırklareli and Tekirdağ, as well as in the vicinity of Saray, Çerkezköy, and Kapaklı.

While the cool and rainy weather affecting all of Turkey is expected to continue until the weekend, showers are also forecast to be effective in the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Eastern Anatolia, and Southeastern Anatolia regions, in addition to Marmara.
