Warning from the Salda Lake Protection Association

The Salda Lake Protection Association has made important statements regarding environmental issues and potential dangers around Lake Salda. The association stated that pushing asphalt scraped during road construction toward the lake could cause damage to the lake during floods. Furthermore, it demanded the use of more natural and environmentally friendly materials and requested that scientists prepare detailed reports on this matter.

POSSESSES A UNIQUE ECOSYSTEM

Emphasizing that Lake Salda offers a unique ecosystem by hosting endemic creatures and plants, the Association reminded that the lake is a world heritage site due to its similarity to the Jezero Crater on the planet Mars.

Stating that AFAD boats are touring the lake and that this situation carries the risk of polluting the lake with potential fuel leaks, the Association also added that unauthorized excavations and pits are being opened around the lake. The Association demanded full protection from the authorities, stating that even the white mounds should not be stepped on, and called for all institutions responsible for protecting the lake to be more effective.

Stating that alternative tourism suggestions include visual and photography tourism as well as balloon flights, the Association expressed that they could promote tourism without polluting the lake and by preserving its natural beauty.

The Association called for urgent and effective steps to be taken to protect the unique ecosystem of Lake Salda and to prevent environmental damage.
