Water levels in Istanbul's dams sound the alarm
The occupancy rate of dams in Istanbul has dropped from 66 percent to 20 percent in the last six months, and the lack of rainfall is causing concern.

The state of water resources in Istanbul is becoming increasingly critical. According to data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), the occupancy rate of the city's dams, which was 66.23 percent on June 30, has fallen to 20.09 percent as of November 18. This decline is due to insufficient rainfall.
Among the dams, the highest occupancy rate was observed at the Elmalı Dam at 51.51 percent, while the water level at the Kazandere Dam was measured at its lowest level at 2.34 percent. The Pabuçdere Dam is also at critical levels with 4.24 percent.
According to İSKİ's data dated November 18, the occupancy rates of the dams in Istanbul are as follows:
- Alibey Dam: 12.92%
- Büyükçekmece Dam: 22.78%
- Darlık Dam: 29.87%
- Elmalı Dam: 51.51%
- Istrancalar Dam: 18.62%
- Kazandere Dam: 2.34%
- Pabuçdere Dam: 4.24%
- Sazlıdere Dam: 20.31%
- Terkos Dam: 23.37%
- Ömerli Dam: 18.33%
Experts warn that if the lack of rainfall continues, water shortages in Istanbul could increase further.
