CNN Türk Meteorology Consultant Prof. Orhan Şen, while making weather forecasts for the new week, also explained whether it would snow in Istanbul.
Şen stated the following;
“These systems have been coming via the Mediterranean all year. The rain starts from the Aegean and covers the Marmara and Mediterranean regions. Therefore, it comes in the form of rain. Since it is higher than a thousand meters in Anatolia, there was snow yesterday as well. But the snow in Anatolia has ended. There is no snow in Istanbul, İzmir, or Antalya on New Year's Eve, but there might be in the Central Anatolia region. The incoming precipitation starts on Thursday. There is no precipitation until Thursday. The precipitation arriving on Thursday might be a bit intense and strong around Antalya. Rain will start again in Istanbul. The system that will enter Istanbul on Thursday will also cover Anatolia. There will be snowfall in Anatolia on Thursday and Friday. There is no snowfall in the west. It looks like we will have to wait until after New Year's, meaning January, for snowfall in Istanbul."
Stating that temperatures will drop across Turkey, Şen said, "Temperatures will drop by 8-9 degrees across Turkey. Snow will come to Turkey starting Saturday and Sunday, but residents of the mega-city will remain longing for snow this week as well. Strong snowfall will be seen in Central Anatolia, Inner Aegean, the south and east of Marmara, and Eastern Anatolia."
