"WE MAY ENTER THE RANKS OF WATER-SCARCE COUNTRIES BY 2030"
Speaking at the event, Minister Yumaklı said, "We may enter the ranks of water-scarce countries by 2030. We aim to make water efficiency a national policy."
Minister Yumaklı's statements are as follows:
"We may enter the ranks of water-scarce countries by 2030. We aim to make water efficiency a national policy. We have goals we want to reach regarding urban, agricultural, and individual water usage. We have published our action plan covering the next 10 years.
Model projects for rainwater harvesting and greywater have been prepared. We have started educational activities to create awareness in every segment of society. We have reorganized the Agricultural Law to place water at the center.
We expect municipalities to reduce water losses and use alternative water sources, and we expect farmers to use modern irrigation during times when evaporation is low.
Our meetings, which started with you, will continue to bring the water efficiency mobilization back to the public agenda. We will organize a water summit with our stakeholders regarding water.
We will meet with young people at our universities and involve the managers of the future in the process now. We will meet with non-governmental organizations and ensure they take an active role.
This is not a one-time set of practices covering a certain period. Therefore, we have a call to the citizens we reach through you; it is time to take action. Let us manage this risk together before it turns into a disaster, and we say, 'be a drop in this mobilization'."
