Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan targeted Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu. Hakan stated, "The reason for the request for Lieutenant Ebru's dismissal is not her Atatürkism or Republicanism," and added, "The reason for the investigation into Lieutenant Ebru is that she stepped outside the scope of the official ceremony by drawing her sword and leading the graduates in an oath."

Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan, penned an article following the dismissal notification issued to those who participated in the sword-crossing ceremony at the Military Academy, including Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu.
