Critical figure of the July 15 coup attempt turns out to be an AKP member! 12punto reveals

Journalist and 12punto columnist Müyesser Yıldız has penned a striking article revealing that some individuals imprisoned at the Ankara Sincan Prison were registered as members of the AKP without their knowledge.

Among the allegations is that former Air Force Commander Akın Öztürk, who is cited as the "number 1" of the coup attempt, was also registered as an AKP member without his knowledge.

According to Yıldız's article, interesting developments occurred at Sincan Prison before the 2023 local elections. The Sincan 1st District Election Board determined that the prison address was shown as the primary address for some detainees and convicts in the voter lists. This situation was inquired with the Supreme Election Council (YSK). In its decision on February 10, the YSK stated that the prison could not be accepted as a primary address and requested that these individuals be removed from the voter lists.

Among the 12 individuals in question were former Major General Mehmet Dişli, whom the then-Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar claimed "held me captive" but whom he accompanied to the Çankaya Mansion the next day; former Lieutenant General Metin İyidil, who was re-arrested following a reaction from Erdoğan after being acquitted; and Akın Öztürk, one of the key figures of the coup attempt.

WHAT HAPPENED AT SİNCAN PRISON?

It has long been alleged that a large number of detainees, most of whom have been held at Ankara Sincan Prison since 2016 for participating in the July 15 coup, were registered to the AKP in particular in a "mysterious" manner.

As a result of our research on this, it turned out that the allegations were true, and furthermore, such an unbelievable name was registered to the AKP!..

Before revealing that name, let us explain what happened at Sincan Prison before last year's local elections.

The Sincan 1st District Election Board Presidency, following an examination of the list suspended in the wards or designated areas as of February 3 regarding detainees and those convicted of negligent crimes in the prison, determined that the prison was registered as the primary address for 12 people.

The situation was inquired with the Supreme Election Council Presidency. On February 10, the YSK stated: "In accordance with the Address Registration System Implementation Directive, since the prison cannot be shown as a primary address, detainees and those convicted of negligent crimes whose primary address is understood to be the prison must be removed from the suspension lists."

The Sincan 1st District Election Board decided on February 14 to remove these 12 individuals from the list, meaning they would not be able to vote.

Among the 12 detainees in question were: former Major General Mehmet Dişli, whom the then-Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar said "had me held captive" but whom he took with him to the Çankaya Mansion the next day, and who was arrested after managing the crisis desk established there until 16:00; former Lieutenant General Metin İyidil, whose aggravated life sentence was overturned by the Court of Appeal, leading to his acquittal and release, but who was re-arrested upon Erdoğan's reaction; as well as another former lieutenant general and a brigadier general, and Akın Öztürk, the former Air Force Commander who is alleged to be the "number 1" of the coup.

Akın Öztürk, whose notification of the District Election Board's decision was served on February 23, immediately wrote petitions to both the District Population Directorate and the District Election Board.

Informing the Population Directorate that the prison address being written as the primary address occurred outside of his own will, Öztürk requested that "his home address be registered as the primary address to ensure his right to vote is not violated, that the prison address be changed to a secondary address, and that these changes be sent to the District Election Board and the prison."

In the petition he sent to the District Election Board, Öztürk stated that "he has been detained at Sincan No. 1 F-Type Prison since 2016, and that the registration of the prison as his primary address in the address system occurred outside of his will," and after requesting that his name be included in the voter list again in accordance with the change to be made by the Population Directorate, he said, "I reserve the right to seek all kinds of legal remedies in case I am unable to vote."

However, the result did not change; he and the others could not vote in the March 31 elections.

If Öztürk's claim is true, let us suffice with asking, "Why, how, and by whom was the prison shown as the primary address for these people in the records?" and return to the issue of party membership.

It has been determined that many of the July 15 defendants at Sincan Prison have been registered as members of the AKP Sincan Organization without their knowledge since 2023. Interestingly, there are also a few who were made CHP members. While their lawyers filed criminal complaints after this discovery by their families, most did not want their names to be disclosed, saying, "Let us not get into more trouble."

But let us write the most important part; former General Akın Öztürk, who is called the "number 1" of the coup and could not vote in the March 31 elections, also learned recently that he has been an AKP member since 2023!..
