Ece Gürel's boss speaks to 12punto: 'Social media took the incident in different directions'

Lawyer Y.B., the owner of the law firm where Ece Gürel worked—which has been at the center of allegations that she was subjected to mobbing—spoke to 12punto. Gürel was found alive 4 days after going missing in the Belgrade Forest but later passed away. 

Gürel's boss, Y.B., said, "I cannot give a date by saying today or tomorrow, but as a firm, we will make a statement to the public in a short time."

Stating, "We are the ones who personally ensured the investigation was opened," Y.B. used the following expressions: "As you would appreciate, we are legal professionals, and since we know the consequences of the actions we will take, these issues will be brought up later in order not to hinder the investigation." 

Ece Gürel's boss, lawyer Y.B., spoke as follows: 

"We, as a firm, are planning to make a general statement on this matter in a short time. I cannot say anything regarding the timing. I do not want to comment on the statements because social media has truly taken the incident in an incredibly different direction and it has progressed toward different topics. 

Therefore, we do not want to make a statement on any subject that will be a matter of debate. In fact, we are the ones who have ensured the investigation was opened with the Public Prosecutor's Office since the very first day. We do not find it appropriate to make a statement at this stage. We will make some statements later."

Have you seen the statements of Ece Gürel's friend, Özge A.Ö., where she claims Gürel told her, “They wanted to make me do things not in my job description. They said, 'You will clean the toilets, you will bring and take the coffees.' I signed a paper to leave”? What would you say to this? 

"I have seen them all. Naturally, we will take the necessary actions accordingly. But I cannot say today or tomorrow. For now, we do not want to cause anything that would hinder the investigation. As you would appreciate, we are legal professionals, and since we know the consequences of the actions we will take, these issues will be brought up later in order not to hinder the investigation. We will take the necessary initiatives."
