The fire occurred at around 14:05 in an agricultural field located in the Çandarlı Yaylayurt neighborhood of the district. İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry teams intervened in a short time to the fire, which started for an as-yet-undetermined reason and spread to the scrubland due to the effect of the wind.
While the fire was being fought from the air with 7 planes and 8 helicopters, and from the ground with 35 water tenders, 4 bulldozers, and dozens of personnel, non-governmental organizations also supported the extinguishing efforts.
The flames, which threatened some nearby residential areas throughout the day as the wind changed direction, were prevented from reaching living spaces as a result of the effective work of the teams. While it was learned that small sheds located on some agricultural lands were damaged in the fire, the danger in the region has been largely averted.
According to information received from the İzmir Governor's Office, the flames have been largely brought under control.
While the flames are flaring up from time to time in some areas due to the effect of the wind, aerial water-dropping operations with planes and helicopters continue shortly before nightfall.
