The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) have shared the 2024 travel data with the public. Additionally, the popular ticketing platform Obilet has released its report revealing this year's travel habits.
HOW MANY PASSENGERS TRAVELED BY AIR IN 2024?
According to DHMİ data, the number of passengers traveling on domestic flights in the first 11 months of 2024 reached 44.1 million, an increase of 4.5% compared to last year. This figure is expected to exceed 47 million by the end of the year. In international flights, there was a 9.5% increase in the same period, with the number of passengers rising to 126.2 million.
BUS TRAVEL SHOWED AN INCREASE
According to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's report, the number of passengers traveling by bus in 2024 rose by 5.2% to 141.8 million.
DAYS WITH THE MOST TRAVEL
According to Obilet data, the date with the highest number of bus tickets purchased was Sunday, April 14, 2024, which coincided with the last day of the Ramadan Feast. The busiest day for flight tickets was recorded as Saturday, June 15, 2024, which was the eve of the Eid al-Adha and the day after schools closed.
WHICH DAY SAW THE PEAK IN ACCOMMODATION DEMAND?
The busiest date of the year for hotel reservations was December 31, 2024, due to New Year's Eve celebrations. This date surpassed all other days in reservations made through the platform.
WHICH ROUTES SAW AN INCREASE IN TRAVEL?
In domestic bus travel, the highest increases were seen on the Hakkari-Van, Erzincan-Tunceli, and Artvin-Iğdır routes. For international routes, Istanbul-Cologne and Istanbul-Frankfurt stood out.
In domestic air travel, the highest growth was seen on the Hatay-Ankara and Izmir-Siirt lines, while significant increases were experienced on international routes including Izmir-Nicosia, Istanbul-Medina, Izmir-Tashkent, Dubai-Istanbul, and Istanbul-Phuket.
HOW MUCH WERE BUS AND FLIGHT PRICES IN 2024?
In December 2024, the average price of domestic bus tickets was 560 TL. This represents a 40% increase compared to last year. Flight ticket prices reached 1,537 TL for domestic flights, a 27% increase, and 5,227 TL for international flights, an 18% rise.
MOST EXPENSIVE TICKETS AND RESERVATIONS
Bus: The most expensive domestic bus ticket was sold for 2,700 TL on the Van-Muğla route on August 29, 2024. For international bus travel, the ticket price on the Madrid-Sofia line reached 9,506 TL on July 7.
Flight: While the most expensive domestic flight ticket was recorded at 12,365 TL for the Muğla-Istanbul flight on August 24, 2024, the Chicago-Istanbul flight was sold for 144,725 TL on November 4 for international flights.
Hotel: The most expensive hotel reservation took place in Antalya on August 5, 2024. A total of 502,907 TL was paid for a 12-day reservation at a 5-star hotel.
