300 people wiretapped in Newborn Gang investigation, shocking recordings emerge

Important information was shared at the Parliamentary Research Commission established regarding infant deaths that occurred at certain private healthcare facilities in Istanbul.

According to information provided by Erkan Hacıfazlıoğlu, Head of the Ministry of Health Inspection Board, the first complaint was filed via CİMER on March 27, 2023. Subsequently, extraordinary audits were launched on May 2, 2023, and on May 5, the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate referred the matter to the Istanbul Police Department.

Hacıfazlıoğlu stated that technical and physical surveillance, as well as wiretapping, began on June 20, 2023, with court authorization, and that a total of 300 people were wiretapped during this process. The transcripts obtained from these wiretaps have become among the most important pieces of evidence in the investigation.

SIMULTANEOUS AUDITS AND SHOCKING TRANSCRIPTS

On September 25, 2023, the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate conducted simultaneous extraordinary audits with teams that included neonatologist specialists. During the audits, numerous documents and findings were reached in cooperation with the prosecutor's office and the police.

The transcripts shared at the commission revealed the depth of the investigation. In the recordings, statements by some healthcare workers reflecting their astonishment and panic regarding the audits drew attention:

"They entered our places, they entered everywhere at the same time in the morning."

"They exposed all kinds of work and irregularities, they poked a stick into our hive."

"They are examining the epicrisis files, they entered as if they were conducting a simultaneous dawn operation."

While it was stated that the evidence obtained is of critical importance in the investigation and prosecution processes, it was emphasized that the investigation is continuing and expanding.
