On February 2, 1925, a legislative proposal prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggested that October 29 be a holiday. On April 19, the proposal was accepted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). With the "Law on Recognizing October 29, the Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic, as a National Holiday," the celebration of Republic Day on October 29 became an official provision.
