Abdulkadir Selvi's 'Demirtaş' scoop: He called on Öcalan to take on a 'task' for a new 'solution process'

Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi has penned an article regarding the claims of a new 'solution, opening' process that began following the handshake between the MHP leader and DEM Party deputies at the opening of the new legislative year in Parliament. 

'IT ALSO PROVIDED GAINS'

Recalling Efkan Ala's words that "there is no new solution process," Selvi referred to the solution process, saying, "The solution process had its weaknesses, but it also provided important gains. At a time when Iraq and Syria were being torn apart, the people of the region saw that Erdoğan was sincere about solving the Kurdish issue and did not give credit to the search for adventures."

THEY PAID THE PRICE

Selvi also stated that AKP and HDP politicians paid heavy prices, saying, "Some of the HDP members went to prison, those on the AK Party front paid heavy political prices. If a new solution process were to be initiated, I am not sure if political actors could be found. In this country, you become a hero in one day and get branded a traitor the next. I do not intend to open a discussion about the solution process at this stage. It is of no use either."

ÖMER ÖCALAN

In his article, Selvi also said the following regarding the visit of DEM Party Şanlıurfa Deputy Ömer Öcalan, who is the nephew of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan:

"When we return to the internal front, President Erdoğan's move and Bahçeli's call were enough to soften the ground. However, no step has been taken mutually yet. His lawyers and his nephew, DEM Party Şanlıurfa Deputy Ömer Öcalan, have applied separately to meet with Öcalan. Will Öcalan be able to undertake this mission? How much influence will he have on Qandil? How much will the US, which trains and equips the PKK-YPG in Syria, allow this? These are not clear. We have serious difficulties due to the situation the region is in. But we also have opportunities."

Selvi also included the claim that Selahattin Demirtaş wants to play an important role in this process, and pointed to Selahattin Demirtaş and PKK leader Öcalan, saying "whoever takes on an effective role is useful" to strengthen the internal front:

Meanwhile, information is coming in that Selahattin Demirtaş also wants to play a role in this process. It is said that Demirtaş stated, "Compared to Öcalan, I am more effective among the youth. Öcalan can make the PKK lay down its arms in Turkey, but I should be given a mission for relations in Syria and Iraq. Because I speak the same language as them."

'WHOEVER TAKES ON A ROLE IS USEFUL'

In this process, whoever takes the initiative, whoever takes on an effective role for the sake of strengthening our internal front, the PKK laying down its arms, and not being a pawn of the US and Israel against Turkey in Syria, is useful. Whether it is Öcalan or Selahattin Demirtaş.
