All of Istanbul is waiting for this decision: Are schools closed on Friday? The Governor announced

Istanbul is under the influence of heavy snowfall. Following warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the snowfall that began in higher elevations yesterday morning continued throughout the night and intensified again in the morning hours.

PRECIPITATION MAY TURN INTO A BLIZZARD

Experts predict that the snowfall will intensify into a blizzard on Friday and Saturday and will continue heavily throughout the weekend. It is estimated that snow depth could reach up to 40 centimeters in some areas.

WARNING FROM IBB

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) stated in a post on its social media account that temperatures in the city will drop further and the snowfall will intensify. The statement included the following:

Please be CAREFUL! Despite the heavy snowfall in the northern parts, we have kept the roads open and increased metro services.

We are warning you for tomorrow! The air temperature will drop further, precipitation will increase, and icing and frost events will occur.

WILL SCHOOLS BE CLOSED?

Istanbul Governor Davut Gül announced that the decision on whether schools will be closed on Friday, depending on the course of the snowfall, will be announced in the evening hours. Students and parents are waiting for the decision from the Governor's Office.

YELLOW CODE WARNING FOR 20 CITIES

According to the latest forecasts from the Meteorology Department, heavy snowfall is expected in the coastal areas of the Central and Eastern Black Sea, as well as the eastern parts of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia, in addition to Istanbul.

A yellow code warning has been issued for Ağrı, Artvin, Bingöl, Bitlis, Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Giresun, Hakkari, Istanbul, Kars, Muş, Ordu, Rize, Siirt, Trabzon, Van, Batman, Şırnak, Ardahan, and Iğdır.

While the snowfall is expected to be effective throughout the weekend, authorities have warned citizens to be careful.
