Another snow warning from the Governor's Office: Do not go out unless necessary
Following days of warnings in Istanbul, snow has begun to take effect in higher altitudes. Another warning for residents of the megacity has come from the Istanbul Governor's Office. In the statement issued by the Governor's Office, it was stated, "Do not go out unless necessary."

The expected snowfall has begun in Istanbul. The Sultangazi District Governorate has announced that education has been suspended for one day across the district due to the snowfall. According to the warnings issued, the precipitation will increase in intensity, especially starting from midnight tonight.
A new one has been added to the warnings issued. A warning has been issued to citizens by the Istanbul Governor's Office regarding the expected heavy snowfall.
The warning issued by the Governor's Office included the following statements:
"According to data from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, the snowfall that has begun to take effect across our province is expected to continue intermittently until the evening hours of Monday, February 24, 2025.
As the Istanbul Governor's Office, we have implemented a series of measures to prevent the negative effects that the snowfall may have on the lives of our citizens. In this context;
- The Istanbul Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) began its operations on a 24-hour basis at the AFAD Provincial Center and in 39 districts as of 08:30 on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The 23 main working groups formed within the scope of TAMP will continue their work without interruption during this process.
- Our teams from the General Directorate of Highways, the Metropolitan Municipality, District Municipalities, and private highway operators will carry out planned activities against icing on highways, bridges, viaducts, and all main roads.
- Security units will continue their winter tire inspections without interruption.
- Storage areas created along highways will be used as vehicle deployment centers, prioritizing high-tonnage vehicles during hours when the intensity of the snowfall increases.
- As the Istanbul Governor's Office, we absolutely do not allow the homeless to remain on the streets. During this process, we will continue to place our homeless citizens and those living on the streets in pre-determined accommodation facilities. It is of vital importance that our citizens report homeless people living on the streets to 112.
- The number of existing intervention teams for electricity, water, natural gas, and other infrastructure services will be increased to ensure that potential problems are resolved more quickly.
- Our health and treatment service teams, especially emergency health services, have been reinforced.
- In case of potential stranding on roads, the nutrition working group will take the necessary measures and prevent potential grievances.
As the Istanbul Governor's Office, we kindly request our citizens to show maximum sensitivity regarding the following issues so that we can get through this process in the healthiest way possible:
- Not going out unless necessary,
- Not using private vehicles,
- Using public transport vehicles when needed,
- Private vehicles without winter tires must absolutely not be taken out into traffic,
- Private sector organizations should plan their personnel and work schedules by following weather conditions…
- Due to adverse weather conditions, cancellations of sea and air transport services are frequently encountered. Checking travel information in advance for our citizens who will use sea and air transport will prevent potential grievances."
