Anti-Atatürk Akit columnist Kenan Alpay works at CHP-run Üsküdar Municipality: He has taken a break from his columns

Kenan Alpay, from the Haksöz sect, is working as a civil servant in the Financial Services Directorate of Üsküdar Municipality.

It has been learned that Alpay even has an internal extension number at the municipality, yet no data regarding his duties appears on the Üsküdar Municipality website.

THE MUNICIPALITY HAD PASSED TO THE CHP

In the 2024 local elections, CHP's Sinem Dedetaş became the new mayor of Üsküdar Municipality, receiving 49 percent of the vote against the former AKP mayor Hilmi Türkmen, who received 42 percent. It is noteworthy that Kenan Alpay has not written any articles for Yeni Akit since the local elections on March 31, 2024.

On the Yeni Akit website, it is seen that Kenan Alpay wrote his last article on November 1, 2023, but he continues his programs on Akit TV.

According to the report by Veryansın Tv, officials at Üsküdar Municipality remain silent despite saying they would make a statement on the matter.

Alpay, who frequently draws public reaction due to his provocative posts during national holidays, continues to target the founding values of the Republic of Turkey during events in Üsküdar.

HERE IS KENAN ALPAY’S HOSTILITY TOWARD ATATÜRK

Kenan Alpay, known as a television programmer and columnist belonging to the Haksöz sect, is particularly known for his hostility toward Atatürk.

In an article he wrote in Akit on November 10, 2016, titled "He is dead and like everyone else, he will be held accountable," Kenan Alpay stated: "Atatürk is dead and like all mortals, he will be held accountable for what he has done. The authority to whom one will be held accountable is Allah the Almighty. In the Islamic faith, the account will be seen when our books of deeds, which compile all attitudes such as faith-disbelief, forbidden-lawful, reform-corruption, are placed in our hands. It is not even possible for those who forget the day of judgment and underestimate the guidance of the Holy Quran and the Messenger of Allah Muhammad Mustafa to save the day with rhetoric such as secularism, enlightenment, progress, modernity, etc."

In his article dated November 15, 2019, titled "Let us not allow the crazy Kemalists to alienate Atatürk from his nation!", Alpay targeted the Great Leader with the following expressions: "Is there a possibility to separate Mustafa Kemal from Kemalism and Atatürk from Atatürkism? Yes, there may be Kemalists who misunderstand Mustafa Kemal and Atatürkists who invent an Atatürk imagination and mission suitable for the conjuncture despite Atatürk; we already see it. However, attempting to extract a political actor who acts in accordance with Islam and social expectations from Mustafa Kemal, and to portray Atatürk as a leader who has established a throne in the hearts of the people as a symbol of compassion and justice, is outright fraud."

In his article dated September 18, 2020, titled "The obligation to love Atatürk, to live as an Atatürkist," Alpay used the following expressions: "Atatürkism/Kemalism defined the political and social identity of a very narrow, even marginal segment. Everyone would become an Atatürkist as a role during official holidays and ceremonies. However, in real life, this official view and pretense would be set aside in an instant. Respect and loyalty to Atatürk were declared only out of fear of the state. The state also knew very well that the love, respect, admiration, and loyalty expressed for Atatürk consisted of constantly repeating mise-en-scènes."
