New information has emerged regarding the pension regulation that millions of people have been waiting for a long time. Social Security Institution Expert Özgür Erdursun made important statements about the phased retirement system.
The social security reform implemented in Turkey in 1999 introduced an age requirement for retirement, causing many insured individuals to delay their retirement.
Those who had their insurance entry before September 8, 1999, and had completed the required number of premium days but could not retire due to age requirements were negatively affected by this situation.
According to a report in Kamu Son Haber, Erdursun stated regarding the gradual retirement system, "A gradual retirement law could be enacted, but this issue is not currently on the government's agenda. I believe this issue could come to the agenda for those who became insured after September 8, 1999. It is likely that this topic will be discussed more, especially during the 2028 election period."
Erdursun, touching on the details of the system, stated, "In this gradual system, women will be able to retire at an earlier age than the current age requirements.
For example, women could retire at 46 instead of 58, and men at 48 instead of 60. In this model, retirement ages will progress gradually as 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, and 56."
Meanwhile, Mihriban Uğurlu, President of the Association for Justice in Retirement (EMADDER), stated that the number of people affected by the retirement age regulations between 1999 and 2008 is approximately 4.5 million.
