Bahçeli earthquake in politics: Some MPs react with 'this is too much!'

The speech delivered by Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli at his party's group meeting has caused widespread repercussions both in political circles and within the MHP itself.

Bahçeli's remarks, which pointed to the 'right to hope' for Öcalan and brought up the potential release of Selahattin Demirtaş, were met with astonishment within the party.

In his speech, Bahçeli stated, "Our decision is clear until Anatolia returns to peace, Öcalan to hope, the Ahmets to their offices, and Demirtaş to his home." These words were interpreted as a call by Bahçeli for the 'right to hope' for Abdullah Öcalan, the reinstatement of dismissed former mayors Ahmet Türk and Ahmet Özer, and the release of imprisoned former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş.

It was learned that the MHP MPs attending the meeting did not respond to Bahçeli's statements with the expected enthusiasm.

It was reported that some MPs did not applaud during the speech and used expressions such as "This is too much" and "It is hard to explain" after the meeting.

According to a report by the Cumhuriyet newspaper, assessments made within the party suggest that the emphasis on Öcalan and Demirtaş does not align with the MHP's traditional political line and that this situation could cause discomfort among the party's grassroots.
