A surprise name has emerged for a winger transfer at Beşiktaş.
According to a report in the Portuguese newspaper Record, the black-and-white team is interested in Benfica's Joao Mario.
It has been stated that Benfica manager Roger Schmidt does not consider Mario in his plans and that his departure from the team could be the best option.
Benfica manager Roger Schmidt stated in his post-match comments following the league game against Estrela that there is a possibility Joao Mario could leave the team.
Schmidt said, "There is a possibility of him leaving the team during this transfer window. There are some offers, and he is considering them. That is why I left him out of the squad."
Joao Mario, who began his football career in Porto's youth academy, later played for Sporting and Vitoria Setubal.
The Portuguese player, who transferred from Sporting to Inter, played for West Ham and Lokomotiv Moscow outside his home country. Joao Mario signed with Benfica in 2021.
The 31-year-old footballer, who can also play in midfield and on the right wing, has recorded 61 goals and 84 assists in the 441 matches he has played.
