According to data released by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), the total market in July decreased by 17.5 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 94 thousand 37 units. During this period, the automobile market declined by 16 percent to 73 thousand 396 units, while the light commercial vehicle market fell by 22 percent to 20 thousand 641 units.
Despite the contraction in July, the total sales volume of 94 thousand units remained 43 percent above the 10-year averages. Sales for the first 7 months exceeded 672 thousand units, reaching a historical record level for the January-July periods.
According to ODMD data, total sales in the January-July 2024 period increased by 0.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 672 thousand 18 units. In the same period, automobile sales increased by 3.4 percent compared to last year to 536 thousand 351 units, while light commercial vehicle sales decreased by 11.1 percent to 135 thousand 667 units.
In the first 7 months of the year, vehicles in the A, B, and C segments, which have lower tax rates, accounted for 87.3% of the market.
During the January-July 2024 period, gasoline-powered car sales reached 349 thousand units, capturing a 65% market share, while hybrid car sales reached 79 thousand units with a 15% share, and diesel car sales reached 58 thousand units with an 11% market share.
During this period, electric vehicle sales reached 45 thousand 342 units, capturing an 8.5 percent market share and marking a 158 percent increase compared to the previous year. In July alone, a total of 5 thousand 735 electric vehicles were sold.
The top-selling electric vehicle brand in July was Togg with 1,277 units. This model was followed by BMW with 510 units and Tesla with 420 units.
According to a report by Hürriyet, the best-selling car brands in the first 7 months of the year have been announced.
