Big reward for Olympic medalists: How many Republic gold coins are awarded

The 33rd edition of the Olympic Games, the world's largest sporting event, is underway in Paris.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which opened on July 26, will last for 17 days and conclude on August 11.

While 101 athletes are representing Turkey in the tournament, 10 thousand 500 athletes from 206 delegations are participating in the organization.

Entering their seventh day, Turkey has so far won 1 silver and 1 bronze medal at the games.

At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Men's Recurve Team consisting of Mete Gazoz, Muhammed Abdullah Yıldırmış, and Ulaş Berkim Tümer won a bronze medal.

Competing in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team category, Şevval İlayda Tarhan and Yusuf Dikeç won Turkey's first-ever Olympic medal in the sport of shooting.

Competing against the Serbian mixed team of Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec on Tuesday, Tarhan and Dikeç were defeated 16-14 by their opponents, finishing as Olympic runners-up and securing the silver medal.

With this result, shooting has become the 10th sport in which Turkey has won a medal throughout its Olympic history.

Turkey had previously won medals in the Olympics in weightlifting, wrestling, taekwondo, boxing, karate, athletics, judo, archery, and gymnastics.

With the first medals arriving, the amount of the awards to be given to the athletes has also become a subject of curiosity.

The amount of the award to be given to athletes who win medals at the Olympic Games is determined according to the Regulation on Rewarding Those Who Show Outstanding Success in Sports Services and Activities, which was put into effect with the Council of Ministers Decision dated September 13, 2010, and numbered 2010/956.

According to the regulation, the awards to be given to athletes are as follows:

- Athletes who win a gold medal will receive the Turkish Lira equivalent of 1,000 Republic Gold coins (Approximately 17,611,000 TL)

- Those who win a silver medal will receive the Turkish Lira equivalent of 600 Republic Gold coins in cash (Approximately 10,566,600 TL)

- Those who win a bronze medal will receive the Turkish Lira equivalent of 300 Republic Gold coins in cash (Approximately 5,283,300 TL)

According to Independent Türkçe, the awards given to athletes by other countries are as follows:

In the United States;

Athletes who win a gold medal are awarded 37,500 dollars,

Athletes who win a silver medal are awarded 22,500 dollars,

Athletes who win a bronze medal are awarded 15,000 dollars.

In France;

Athletes who win a gold medal are awarded 86,000 dollars,

Athletes who win a silver medal are awarded 44,000 dollars,

Athletes who win a bronze medal are awarded 22,000 dollars.

In New Zealand;

Gold medalists are paid $40,000 annually until the next Olympics, while silver or bronze medalists are also awarded a cash prize until the next Olympics.

In Singapore;

Athletes who win a gold medal are awarded 738,000 dollars,

Athletes who win a silver medal are awarded 369,000 dollars,

Athletes who win a bronze medal are awarded 184,000 dollars.

In Kazakhstan,

A large apartment is awarded to the gold medal winner,

A medium-sized apartment to the silver medal winner,

And a small apartment to the bronze medal winner.
