IT WILL SERVE AS A CULTURAL CENTER
The historic mansion, which sheds light on Mudanya's deep-rooted past, is preparing to serve as a "Republic Museum" following a comprehensive restoration.
The historic building, one of the most important examples of civil architecture on Girit Street, will be offered for public use as a cultural and educational center in addition to its museum function.
Mudanya Mayor Deniz Dalgıç, who inspected the restoration work on-site, emphasized that they aim to carry the district's historical riches into the future with this project.
"THE MUSEUM WILL SHED LIGHT ON THE HISTORY OF THE REPUBLIC"
Providing information about the project, which is being carried out with the support of the Bursa Governorship Investment Monitoring and Coordination Department (YİKOB), Dalgıç said, "We will prepare this structure, which has the status of a historical monument, as a museum that will shed light on the history of the Republic with the works from the '1919 - 1923 Epic and Them' exhibition by painter Gürol Sözen, a member of the Çekül Foundation Board of Founders.
We plan to use the historic structure, which we aim to complete by the summer of 2025, for touristic, cultural, and educational purposes by adding different functions to it," he said.
"WE WILL BRING HISTORIC STRUCTURES BACK TO LIFE"
Drawing attention to the historical richness of the area known as Girit Street, which is located within an urban site and conservation area, Mayor Dalgıç stated the following:
"There are many similar structures in our region. Making Mudanya a more special place and bringing the important assets that come from its history and culture back to light is one of our most important duties as a municipality.
We want to do our best to uncover the old Mudanya and open it to visitors.
For Mudanya to develop in terms of tourism, we need to bring such structures back to the present day.
VERY CLOSE TO THE HISTORIC ARMISTICE HOUSE!
This mansion is located very close to the Armistice House Museum, which is the heart of Mudanya.
The Armistice House Museum is the first place where the foundation stone of the Republic was laid. This mansion of ours will be the place that crowns a cultural trip related to the history of the Republic."
