According to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association, the automobile and light commercial vehicle market in August increased by 0.8 percent compared to August 2023, reaching 90 thousand 134 units.

In August, automobile sales increased by 0.23 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 69 thousand 288 units, while the light commercial vehicle market grew by 2.6 percent to 20 thousand 846 units. The automobile and light commercial vehicle market increased by 48.9 percent compared to the 10-year average for August sales.

The automobile market showed a 51.4 percent increase compared to the 10-year average sales for August. The light commercial vehicle market increased by 41.3 percent compared to the 10-year average sales for August.

In 2023, a record year, 89,454 units were sold. Thus, with a difference of 680 units, the best August result to date was reached in 2024. At the end of 8 months, the market grew by 0.2 percent, reaching 762,152 units.

According to Emre Özpeynirci, this record-breaking sales figure is driven by both the advantage of domestic vehicles with 'national type approval' being allowed to sell non-GSR2 compliant vehicles until August 31 (following an extension), as well as the impact of recent stock-clearing campaigns and consumer concerns over potential price hikes due to currency fluctuations.

Fiat maintained its leadership in both August and the 8-month sales figures. In August, the top 3 spots were taken by the Egea Sedan, Clio HB, and Megane Sedan (domestic models), while the Polo ranked 4th, the Qashqai 5th, and the Focus, which was a major surprise, took 6th place.

At the end of the 8-month period (January-August), the top 3 remained unchanged. Seven domestically produced cars were included in the top 10.

In August, electric vehicle sales fell by 31 percent to 5,661 units, with their market share declining to 8.17 percent. During the same period, hybrid sales increased by 88 percent, while diesel sales rose by 18 percent. Looking at the first 8 months, electric vehicle sales increased by 94 percent (though the growth rate slowed), and their market share stood at 7.7 percent.
