A positive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report has been issued for the copper mine project to be carried out in Maden, Elazığ, by Eti Bakır, a subsidiary of Cengiz Holding, a company frequently mentioned in public tenders and owned by Mehmet Cengiz.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, the document submitted by the company to the ministry shows that the project will affect an area of 290.81 hectares (approximately 409 football fields). The project site has been planned to encompass treasury, forest, agricultural, and private lands.

In addition to the underground copper mine to be established in the area, concrete plants, a pond, and an explosives storage facility will also be constructed.

While the ore is being extracted from underground, fill material will be provided from a previously permitted limestone quarry. The extracted ore will be enriched at a planned flotation plant and then sent to Eti Bakır's facilities in Samsun or Mazıdağı.

A total production of 32 million 885 thousand tons of ore is planned during the operations, which are expected to last 28 years.
