CHP Leader Özel's 'I wanted to strangle them' reaction: Stern warning to mayors

Following his meetings with Party Assembly members and deputies, Özel met with mayors at the Headquarters.

During the meeting, footage showing a bribe being received in a baklava box at the Manavgat Municipality was brought up. Regarding the deputy mayor who accepted the bribe in question, Özel stated, "I wanted to strangle them."

Following corruption and bribery operations targeting CHP municipalities, the main opposition party has held a series of extraordinary meetings. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel met with mayors following meetings with party assembly members and deputies. The meeting was held at the Headquarters.

"I WANTED TO STRANGLE THEM"

According to a report by Mahir Kılıç from Habertürk, the footage of the bribe in a baklava box recorded at the Manavgat Municipality was brought up during the meeting. Özel used the expression "I wanted to strangle them" regarding the deputy mayor who accepted the bribe. Özel also issued warnings to the mayors regarding concert and entertainment organizations.

"I WILL DO WHAT IS NECESSARY IN CASE OF ANY IRREGULARITY"

CHP Leader Özel stated, "I will do what is necessary in case of any irregularity."

Reminding them of the bribery footage at the Manavgat Municipality, he warned the mayors. He told them to increase their internal audits. Özel said to be more careful and sensitive on this matter. Özel stated, "If a report of corruption reaches me, I will do what is necessary and expel that person from the party."

Furthermore, it was stated that during the meeting, Özel told the mayors, "Do not do business with private companies as much as possible, use municipal resources, and do not let the same people constantly win the same tenders."
