The General Directorate of Security has issued a statement regarding the seizure of approximately 9 tons of cocaine on the ship named Haliç-Equality, following a raid conducted by the French navy.
According to the Police statement, it was noted that the ship in question departed from Tuzla Port without any cargo.
FRENCH SECURITY FORCES SEIZED IT
According to data obtained within the scope of national and international anti-narcotics efforts, French security forces stopped the ship named HALİÇ-EQUALITY near the Martinique Islands in the Atlantic Ocean on January 10, 2025, and seized approximately 9 tons of cocaine.
SOLD TO A PANAMA-BASED FIRM
It was stated that, according to examinations made from official sources, the ship was sold by the Turkish citizen who was alleged to be its owner to a Panama-based firm on November 4, 2024, and that it had been flying the Tanzanian flag since that date.
The General Directorate of Security announced that the ship departed from Istanbul Tuzla Port on November 12, 2024, flying the Tanzanian flag without cargo, and that information was provided that its destination was Algeria.
The drugs on the ship were seized on January 10, 2025, through an operation carried out by French authorities, and it has been verified by official records that a 2-month period passed between the departure from Tuzla Port and the operation by French security forces.
NO TURKISH FLAG OR CREW
It was noted that there was no Turkish flag or crew on the ship during the operation, and that the ownership of the ship did not belong to Turkish citizens. It was determined that there were 12 foreign crew members on board during the raid on the ship.
CRIMINAL COMPLAINT TO BE FILED
The Police took action against baseless and false accusations made on social media, filing a criminal complaint against the relevant individuals for the crimes of "publicly disseminating misleading information" and "insulting the Turkish Nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, and the institutions and organs of the State."
The General Directorate of Security stated that it will continue to fight decisively against drug trafficking, as it does with all crimes.
