Credit card spending in Turkey reaches 10.6 trillion liras
In Turkey, bank and credit card spending reached 10.6 trillion liras in the January-September period. 29 percent of the spending was made online; the highest expenditure occurred in grocery stores.

According to information compiled from Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) data, the total amount of transactions made with bank and credit cards across Turkey reached 10 trillion 627.3 billion liras in the January-September period of 2024.
When the sectoral distribution of payments made with bank and credit cards is examined, the highest expenditure was made in the grocery and shopping mall category with 1 trillion 863.2 billion.
The miscellaneous food category ranked second with 742.4 billion liras, followed by clothing and accessories with a total of 739.9 billion liras.
During the period in question, payments of 710.5 billion liras were made for electricity and electronic goods, and 695.4 billion liras for the service sectors using bank and credit cards.
During this period, 663.9 billion liras were paid with bank and credit cards at gasoline and fuel stations, while food expenditures amounted to 629.7 billion liras and other payments totaled 555.2 billion liras.
Between January and September, insurance payments totaled 506.1 billion lira, public/tax payments reached 462.6 billion lira, and payments for vehicle leasing, sales, service, and spare parts amounted to 431.6 billion lira.
During the same period, while 409.9 billion liras were paid for construction materials, hardware, and ironmongery, card payments of 375.3 billion liras were made in the health, health products, and cosmetics sector, 307.1 billion liras in education, stationery, and office supplies, and 297.3 billion liras in furniture and decoration.
In addition, 246.1 billion liras in travel agency and transportation services, 235 billion liras in airline transactions, and 151 billion liras in contracting work were paid via bank and credit cards.
Expenditure amounts made with debit and credit cards were listed as 174.6 billion for jewelry, 173.7 billion for accommodation payments, 105.4 billion for telecommunications payments, 51.3 billion for private pension payments, 37 billion for car rental payments, 34.6 billion for club, association, and social services payments, and 15.8 billion Turkish lira for direct marketing payments.
