Istanbul is coming under the influence of freezing cold temperatures with the start of the new week.
According to statements made by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the Istanbul Governor's Office, and AKOM, a cold air wave arriving from Siberia will cause temperatures to drop by 3 to 6 degrees suddenly.
Snowfall is expected to take effect starting from Wednesday, and it is estimated that snow depth could reach 10 centimeters in the northern districts.
COLD AND SNOWFALL ARE COMING
Meteorology experts stated that air temperatures in Istanbul could drop to zero degrees throughout the week.
AKOM had announced that severe precipitation and a cold air wave would be effective in the city as of Monday, February 17.
Sleet is expected to begin on Wednesday, and heavy snowfall is expected to be effective starting from Thursday. It is predicted that the snowfall will strengthen on Friday and Saturday, increasing its impact across the city.
WARNING FROM AUTHORITIES
AKOM and the Istanbul Governor's Office called on citizens to be careful against icing, frost, and potential disruptions in transportation.
It was emphasized that drivers, in particular, should take precautions against black ice during the night and morning hours.
Meteorology officials announced that the cold air wave will remain 4 to 8 degrees below seasonal norms until February 25, and temperatures are expected to return to normal between February 26 and March 5.
Authorities advised citizens to follow current weather forecasts and not to go out in traffic unless necessary.
