Deniz Yücel reacts to Minister Yusuf Tekin over daycare centers: 'You are an enemy of Turkey, Yusuf Tekin'

Republican People's Party (CHP) spokesperson Deniz Yücel made harsh statements targeting Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin on November 24, Teachers' Day.

In a post on his social media account, Yücel claimed that efforts were being made to distance children from secular and scientific education. Yücel stated the following:

“The individual who is a devotee of religious sects, who tries to distance our children—our most valuable assets—from secular and scientific education, who cannot even manage to clean schools, and who begrudges our children a single meal, is now preoccupied with trying to block the project that the CHP cares about the most.”

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel also addressed a similar issue at the “The Solution is Equality” workshop held on the occasion of Teachers' Day. Özel announced that the Ministry of National Education had sent notices to CHP municipalities demanding they not open nurseries and dormitories. Özel argued that these obstructions pose a major danger to the future of children.

NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE

In his statements, Deniz Yücel targeted Minister Tekin's policies and used the phrase “national security issue.” Stating that the nurseries and dormitories they are trying to close serve as a way to save children from religious sect dormitories, Yücel said:

“The nurseries and dormitories they want to close are beacons of hope that save our children who are otherwise condemned to religious sect dormitories. We will resolutely continue this struggle for the future of our children and our youth.”
