Scientists in Canada have announced that they have discovered a new artificial intelligence-based method capable of detecting hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, by using voice recordings of individuals.
In a study conducted by Klick Labs in Canada, 245 participants were asked to record their voices 6 times a day for 2 weeks using a mobile application developed by scientists.
Researchers utilized artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze hundreds of vocal biomarkers in the application, which allow for the extraction of certain information that characterizes voice data—such as variability in pitch—that the human ear cannot distinguish.
It was stated that the mobile application detects hypertension with an accuracy rate of up to 84 percent in women and 77 percent in men.
Lead author of the study Yan Fossat stated, "We have discovered a more accessible way to detect hypertension. We hope that this technique will enable earlier intervention for this common global health issue."
The details of the research were published in the journal "IEEE Access".
