At the summit of Uçhisar Castle, one of the key destinations in the Cappadocia region—which is on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List—a foreign tourist performed inappropriate actions on a Turkish flagpole.
Following the circulation of the footage on social media, AKP Nevşehir Deputy Emre Çalışkan issued a statement on his social media account, harshly condemning the behavior. Deputy Çalışkan stated, "The flag is our honor and the light of our eyes. Whoever lacks this awareness must be warned, and immediate intervention must be taken. Tourists we host in Cappadocia have always been welcomed with the hospitality of Nevşehir. However, this disrespect toward our national and spiritual values can never be accepted."
Emphasizing that they would follow the incident closely, Çalışkan added, "I condemn this strongly. We will closely monitor the process to ensure that necessary actions are taken and legal steps are initiated regarding this individual. We will not tolerate any disrespect toward the values of our nation."
