Engin Altan Düzyatan defrauded via municipality scam

Actor Engin Altan Düzyatan fell into the trap of scammers. A scammer who claimed to be calling from the Aydın Municipality used the mayor's name to request money from Düzyatan for supposedly purchasing wheelchairs. Düzyatan, who did not turn down the request, said, "I am very easily defrauded."

According to the report by Habertürk, Düzyatan stated that thinking he was being called by the Aydın Municipality, he bought 4 wheelchairs instead of the 2 requested and deposited the money into the bank account number provided by the scammers.

THEY USED THE MAYOR'S NAME

Engin Altan Düzyatan described the incident as follows: "I am very easily defrauded. One day, while my wife was with me, I received a call saying, 'We are calling from the Aydın Municipality.' A very serious-sounding man said, 'I am the secretary of the Aydın Municipality. Mr. Engin, we know you, you are a very sensitive person. We have purchased thirty-eight wheelchairs, only two are left. Our mayor requests that you provide those as well,' and he connected me to a man he claimed was the mayor.

We chatted with the man. He said, 'Our friends have spoken with you. Thank you very much, you are a very valuable artist, long live, it is great that you exist.' I said, 'It is my pleasure, sir, I will buy 3 or 4,' and we hung up the phone.

"NESLİŞAH SAID IT WAS DEFINITELY NOT REAL"

I was about to deposit the money immediately. Neslişah said, 'Something like this cannot be. It is definitely not real.' I said, 'How can you say that, I spoke with the mayor,' and I deposited the money. After that, there was neither a 'mayor' nor a secretary to be found. I deposited the money and it was gone. The men defrauded me by using the name of the municipality. I am very easily defrauded. One day I bought a helmet online. A used helmet arrived, you know. Broken and everything... What kind of effort is this? The man sent an old helmet.

Neslişah told me, 'Please, do not shop online.' My wife was also almost defrauded recently. They had reached the final stage. They told her, 'A sum of money was accidentally sent to your account, you need to send it back.' She said, 'I will send it immediately, I am very afraid of such things.' Meanwhile, she was talking to our own banker. He said, 'Yes, that could happen,' and things suddenly got complicated. They withdrew a small amount at the last moment, but they could not withdraw the rest. I guess such things are happening a lot these days."
