Following the raise implemented in January, it had been clearly stated by the government side that there would be no interim hike for the minimum wage in July.
This development caused disappointment among millions of minimum-wage citizens. Similarly, the fact that the raise given to pensions also remained below expectations drew a reaction from the retiree segment.
Especially after the expectation for a flat-rate raise went unfulfilled, retirees demanded that the government take a new step.
CRITICAL DATE: MARCH 23
SGK expert Özgür Erdursun, in his assessment to TGRT Haber, stated that the government's economic policies in July would be handled in conjunction with the election process. Drawing attention to March 23, the date of the primary elections in the CHP, Erdursun noted that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan would make a decision by observing public reactions against the possibility of an early election.
Erdursun's statements are as follows:
“The July period will be decisive in terms of the steps to be taken regarding pensions and the minimum wage. In addition to economic decisions, political developments may also affect the government's stance. It is considered likely that improvements will be made to the minimum wage and pensions by taking into account the demands of the public as part of President Erdoğan's election campaign process.”
The inflation data to be announced in July will form the basis for the raise to be given to pensions. It is anticipated that the government may introduce additional improvements to the raise rate it will determine by taking into account the inflation rates between January and June.
However, it is stated that not only inflation figures but also public opinion polls and political balances will be effective in the raise rates. In Ankara's political circles, it is expressed that the government will act according to poll results.
JULY IS CRITICAL IN ECONOMIC PLANNING
It is stated that the announcements to be made in July will clarify the levels to which pensions and the minimum wage will rise. In line with the government's economic plans, the importance of the steps to be taken to protect the public's purchasing power against inflation is emphasized.
It is stated that July will be a critical threshold in terms of both economic indicators and political developments.
ANOTHER PIECE OF BAD NEWS FOR RETIREES
On the other hand, while it is stated that citizens who will retire in 2025 will coincide with a more advantageous period, an expectation of a decrease in salaries for those who will retire in 2026 was highlighted. Erdursun stated that retirees who will benefit from the improvements to be made within 2025 will receive higher salaries; however, those who will retire in 2026 will be deprived of this advantage.
