Fatih Altaylı's harsh response to Bahçeli's Öcalan call: 'Let him host a Republic Day reception(!)'

Journalist Fatih Altaylı evaluated the terrorist attack at TUSAŞ, in which 5 citizens were martyred.

Recalling the words of retired Rear Admiral Cihat Yaycı, Fatih Altaylı stated the following:

"They spoke of such an attack in general. They said they were expecting two events. I spoke with many people who said they were expecting an attack on a public institution and a second one on a political leader. There are various scenarios.

There are those who say that after Bahçeli made this statement, a group within the PKK—a group close to Qandil, a group I call the 'New PKK' to match the 'New Turkey'—carried out this attack to send a message saying, 'We will not reconcile with you, who is Öcalan?', and that neither Öcalan nor others expected this.

There are those who say the US allowed such an attack to send a message. There are those who say it is a way of saying, 'Watch your step.'

Every explanation is being linked to Bahçeli's statement. Another possibility is those who say, 'It's not the PKK, it's the YPG.'

What is important here is that there is a vulnerability. I am smiling a little, but the reason for my laughter is not the attack. Those are extremely painful, but it is the situation politicians have put themselves in.

We had an Interior Minister who once served in the ministry and claimed to have ended terrorism, asserting that he knew the eye color, shoe size, and palm prints of every terrorist. This Minister's speeches were being applauded.

Who was this Minister's most important supporter? Mr. Devlet Bahçeli. It seems the minister whom Devlet Bahçeli supported for ending terrorism did not actually end it, because now you are extending an invitation to the leader of a terrorist organization, someone you once called a 'baby killer,' to end terrorism. What happened to it being over? What happened to the person who was to be your successor in your party having finished this job? You are raising the bar to such a point that the DEM Party is saying, 'Let's do it on October 29th.'

They are even pushing it to the point of suggesting that Öcalan should host a Republic Day reception in Imrali, and that the media and members of parliament should be invited there.

What happened here is that the State has lost both its morale and its tactical superiority against the PKK."
