Firefighting efforts in Denizli! Fire continues for 4 days, remains unextinguished

The forest fire that broke out around 14:20 on Thursday, October 24, 2024, on Karcı Mountain, located on the border of Denizli's Merkezefendi and Babadağ districts, continues.
Intensive aerial and ground interventions are being carried out against the fire, which is ongoing in a rugged area that is difficult to access. Units affiliated with the forestry and fire departments, as well as non-governmental organizations and volunteers, are supporting the firefighting efforts.
While efforts are being made to cut off the fire's path with construction machinery, the fight against the flames continues uninterrupted despite the darkness and cold.
TERRAIN CONDITIONS PREVENT GROUND INTERVENTION
In a post shared on the social media account of the General Directorate of Forestry, it was stated: "The ongoing fire in Denizli was responded to throughout the day with 6 helicopters, 25 water tenders, 8 construction machines, and a total of 715 personnel. Due to the rugged and rocky nature of the terrain, ground teams are fighting the fire in many places by opening firebreaks with hand tools."
"Aerial vehicles worked throughout the day in areas where terrain conditions do not allow for ground intervention, and road-opening works with construction machinery are continuing without interruption. The images circulating on social media that are claimed to be 'of the ongoing fire in Denizli' have no connection to the fire currently ongoing in Denizli. The fire does not pose a threat to residential areas at this time," it was stated.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
Governor Ömer Faruk Coşkun and Metropolitan Mayor Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu also conducted inspections in the region affected by the fire and received information from Regional Forestry Director Ahmet Üçgül.
In the statement made by the Governor's Office, it was stated that efforts to bring the fire, which does not pose a threat to residential areas, under control are continuing without interruption.

In the statement made by the Ministry of National Defense, the following information was shared:
"A CH-47 type helicopter belonging to our Land Forces has been assigned to support the efforts to extinguish the forest fire that occurred and is ongoing in the Tavas district of Denizli province on October 25, 2024."
