Flash development in the Narin Güran murder case: Those images have been seized

The investigation into the murder of Narin Güran, who was reported missing on August 21 in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the Bağlar district in Diyarbakır, and whose lifeless body was found on the 19th day of search efforts, continues.

As the murder investigation, in which 12 people including family members have been arrested, enters its 39th day, it has not yet been determined who murdered 8-year-old Narin.

Since the first day of the investigation, it has emerged that while family members provided contradictory statements, villagers also sabotaged the search efforts for Narin.

In the investigation conducted by 3 prosecutors and 1 deputy chief prosecutor under the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, while the evidence obtained is being meticulously examined, camera footage with audio recording capabilities from the house belonging to uncle Hüseyin Güran has also been sent to TÜBİTAK.

PEOPLE WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN THE VILLAGE WERE THERE ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT

According to a report by Özgür Cebe from Sözcü, the camera footage from the home of the family elder, uncle Hüseyin Güran—which is equipped with audio recording capabilities—has also been seized for examination.

JASAT teams examining the recording device will identify both family members and individuals without blood ties who were present during the dates when search operations were ongoing around Hüseyin Güran’s house.

According to findings from camera footage, it has been determined that individuals who were not supposed to be in the village and did not reside there were present during the time frame covering the dates when search operations were ongoing, the date uncle Salim was arrested, and the date the body was found.

While the investigation continues on multiple fronts, all eyes are now turned toward the upcoming report on image analysis from TÜBİTAK and the report on DNA examinations expected from the Van Gendarmerie Regional Criminal Laboratory.

SCHOOL FOOTAGE UNDER REVIEW: SUSPICION OF TAMPERING

The arrest of uncle Salim 12 days later, after he had visited the school to review security camera footage from August 21—the day Narin went missing—while search efforts were still ongoing, has heightened suspicions that the footage may have been tampered with.

The gendarmerie has taken the school's security camera footage for examination. This footage has also been sent to TÜBİTAK to be analyzed by expert witnesses.

A report will also be prepared and sent to the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding whether any deletions, copying, image manipulation, or interruptions were made to the footage before or after 15:15, the time when Narin was within the camera's field of view.

UNCLE AND MOTHER TO BE QUESTIONED IN PRISON

Meanwhile, following the petition submitted by Nevzat Bahtiyar, who hid Narin's body in the stream, stating, "I am suffering from a guilty conscience and will tell everything I know," his testimony was taken for the third time. In this testimony, he identified uncle Salim Güran as the primary perpetrator of the murder and mother Yüksel Güran as an eyewitness. Consequently, it has been learned that the mother and uncle will be questioned again regarding these allegations. However, it was reported that because the family members are being held at the High-Security Closed Penal Execution Institution campus, their questioning will take place within the prison to avoid the security risks associated with transporting them to and from the courthouse.

It has been stated that the 3 prosecutors conducting the investigation will go to the prison to re-interrogate the mother, Yüksel, and the uncle, Salim Güran, in a special room there regarding the allegations made by Nevzat Bahtiyar.

In his final statement, Bahtiyar accused mother Yüksel and uncle Salim Güran with the following sentences:

"SALİM CALLED ME TO NARİN’S HOUSE"

Salim called me to his brother Arif’s house. The doors of all rooms except one were closed. When Salim took me to one of the rooms on the left, I saw Narin lying motionless on the floor. As far as I remember, there was a foam-like liquid in Narin’s mouth.

Salim told me, ‘I killed this girl because she saw that I was with Yüksel. Now you are my accomplice. Since you witnessed this incident, you will dispose of the body. Otherwise, I will have a bullet put in your son’s head.

Get rid of this, and afterwards I will give you 200 thousand liras,’ he said. Salim and I placed the body inside a blanket.

After Salim handed me the body, I left the house with it. I gave the blanket to Salim, who was following me in his vehicle. He told me, 'Dismember the body if necessary, then throw it into the creek.'

When I looked toward Arif Güran’s house, Narin’s mother, Yüksel, was crying with her face in her hands.
