Halal certification shock in pork scandal: CHP takes action

The pork scandal exposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's report also brought to light the fact that Köfteci Yusuf holds a "halal certificate." This situation has led to the questioning of halal food standards, and CHP Istanbul MP Oğuz Kaan Salıcı has submitted a parliamentary question on the matter to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

In his questions directed to Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, Salıcı sought to learn the number of companies that hold a halal certificate but have been found to engage in imitation and adulteration.

He also requested information on whether the certificates of these companies have been revoked and how "halal" inspections are carried out.

Salıcı pointed out that the detection of pork, horse, and donkey meat in certain products negatively affects honest tradespeople, emphasizing that the reliability of these certificates must be questioned.

CHP TAKES ACTION

CHP Istanbul MP Oğuz Kaan Salıcı asked Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat how many businesses among those found to have engaged in imitation and adulteration hold a 'halal certificate.'

In the parliamentary question he submitted to the TBMM, Salıcı recalled that it had been determined that pork, horse, and donkey meat were used in some products, stating that this situation also negatively impacts honest tradespeople.

Salıcı also asked Bolat how many of the firms found to have engaged in imitation and adulteration despite having a 'halal certificate' have had their certificates revoked, and whether 'halal' inspections were conducted on these firms.

Furthermore, Salıcı requested an explanation as to whether any firm has been identified that was granted a 'halal certificate' despite not meeting the requirements.
