Turkey was shaken by news of martyrdom on the first day of the week... A military helicopter crashed in the Keçiborlu district of Isparta. Army Aviation School Commander Brigadier General İsa Baydilli and 5 soldiers were martyred in the accident.
It has emerged that the 1956 US-made UH-1 helicopter, which crashed in an incident that claimed the lives of 6 of our soldiers in total, had been involved in previous accidents in Turkey.
IT CRASHED IN ISTANBUL 5 YEARS AGO
The UH-1 type helicopter, which was also used during the Cyprus Peace Operation, crashed in the Sancaktepe district of Istanbul on February 12, 2019. Four soldiers on board the helicopter, which fell into a residential area, were martyred.
UH-1S WERE USED IN THE VIETNAM WAR
The UH-1s, which continue to be used by many countries and are among the symbols of the Vietnam War, were designed for search and rescue, transport, and pilot training missions.
US ARMY BEGAN USING THEM IN 1959, RETIRED THEM IN 2004
The UH-1s, which made their first flight on October 22, 1956, entered the service of the US Army in 1959. The production line for the UH-1s, which were last produced in 1976, closed that year.
The US decided to stop using the UH-1s, the pioneers of the Bell helicopter series, starting in 2004.
There have been previous UH-1 type military helicopter accidents in Turkey.

November 8, 2002 - A UH-1 type helicopter belonging to the Bandırma 6th Main Jet Base crashed while landing at a training field. As a result of the accident, six military personnel, two of them seriously, were injured.
March 16, 2006 - A UH-1 type military helicopter heading to Erzincan crashed 55 km away from Erzincan after hitting a high-voltage power line. Five soldiers were martyred in the accident.
April 10, 2006 - A UH-1 type military personnel transport helicopter crashed near the Uzunçiftlik town of Kocaeli. Three military personnel were martyred.
January 10, 2011 - Five officers were martyred when a UH-1 type military helicopter belonging to the Army Aviation School Command, which was on a training flight, crashed in the area between Temelli in the Sincan district and the Kapalıtepe location of Dodurga Village in the Polatlı district.
November 26, 2018 - Five soldiers lost their lives when a UH-1 type military helicopter belonging to the 4th Army Aviation Regiment Command crashed in the Sarıgazi neighborhood of the Sancaktepe district in Istanbul on November 26, 2018.
February 11, 2019 - A military UH-1 type helicopter crashed into a housing complex near a children's playground in Çekmeköy, Istanbul. The 4 injured soldiers who were taken to the hospital were martyred.
