His hospital's name appeared in the Newborn Gang indictment: Former Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu says 'My conscience is clear'

The 'Newborn Gang,' which caused the deaths of numerous babies by transferring them to private hospitals for illicit gain, has become the primary agenda in Turkey.

The summary of proceedings prepared regarding the gang that has shaken Turkey was converted into an indictment by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

While the names of hospitals linked to the 'Newborn Gang' were included in the indictment, it was revealed that one of these hospitals belongs to former Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu.

Following the inclusion of the private Avcılar Hospital in the indictment, all eyes turned to the former minister, Müezzinoğlu.

Speaking to Oda TV, Müezzinoğlu made a statement regarding his hospital's name being involved in the 'Newborn Gang' incident.

In his statement, Müezzinoğlu noted the following:

“Our hospital's name is mentioned. We cannot have any understanding other than healing people and keeping them alive. It is impossible for us to accept anyone with such a mindset.

And I would work to ensure that those who hold a different understanding are punished before the law. Whoever harms human health and the right to life must pay the heaviest price.”

'I AM CONSCIENCE-CLEAR'

Stating that the private Avcılar Hospital was opened in 1989, Mehmet Müezzinoğlu said that he had not yet looked at the indictment but had received information from the hospital management.

The former Health Minister continued his words as follows:

“We have had hundreds of employees in this scope. We cannot say that no one has done anything wrong. I have not looked at the indictment, and I have no information other than what has been reflected to the public.

However, I received information from the hospital management, so my conscience is very clear. My colleagues are people who do their jobs well. We already undergo 6-7 inspections. I am at peace in terms of my conscience.”
