Sadık Şaşmaz (29), who lives in the central Sarıçam district, saw his pregnant wife, Melek (25), travel to her hometown of Batman last month. After staying in Batman for about a month, Melek Şaşmaz returned to Adana in the early hours of Sunday, August 31.
Sadık Şaşmaz, who went to the bus terminal to meet his wife, decorated his car with balloons and wrote, "I missed you so much, my dear wife, welcome home." Surprised by the gesture, his wife hugged him and thanked him.
Şaşmaz's post of these moments on social media was flooded with likes. Sadık Şaşmaz, who works as a cleaning staff member for the company ISS Türkiye at the Adana City Training and Research Hospital, took a 2-day sick leave on Monday, September 1, due to an illness and sent it to his supervisor.
Two days after the surprise organization, Şaşmaz's gesture for his wife was reported in the news as "Colorful scenes from Adana: He decorated his car with balloons and signs, welcomed his wife." Many people who saw the news congratulated the couple.
FIRED FROM HIS JOB
Upon seeing the news, the company claimed that Sadık Şaşmaz had carried out this organization on the day he was on sick leave and prepared a report, stating that he "does not comply with the principles of honesty and responsibility, which are among our core ISS values." In his defense regarding the report, Şaşmaz proved that he had carried out this organization in the early hours of August 31. Following this, the company drew up another report a day later and terminated Şaşmaz's contract, citing "low performance."
"'HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE' WON, BUT I ENDED UP UNEMPLOYED"
Explaining his misfortune to İHA, Şaşmaz said, "I organized this to make my wife happy. Through you, I reached millions of people and received very positive reactions. However, the company I work for claimed that I did this on the day I was on sick leave. I proved to them that I did not do such a thing on the day I was on sick leave, but afterwards, they fired me, citing low performance. I said 'happy wife, happy life' would win, and it did, but I ended up unemployed."
"MY WIFE IS PREGNANT, AND I AM UNEMPLOYED"
Noting that his wife is pregnant and that he is in a difficult situation because he is unemployed, Şaşmaz said, "My wife is pregnant, and I live in a rented house. My rent is due in 3 months, and I don't know what I will do. I will file a lawsuit for reinstatement, but I either want them to take me back to work or I am asking for a job from charitable business people."
Meanwhile, the company ISS Türkiye did not make a statement.
