'If I weren't a journalist...' Journalist Arzu Akbaş Zor saved twin babies from the 'Newborn' gang!

Hürriyet Magazine News Manager Arzu Akbaş Zor wrote about the scandal at Esenyurt Reyap Hospital, where her friend Menekşe Kadiz gave birth in 2023, a facility headed by "Newborn Gang" leader Fırat Sarı.

Akbaş Zor stated the following:

We requested their test results to understand the problem. At that time, the mother noticed issues with the baby boy and rashes on his body. When Menekşe couldn't get the test results, she took a video of her child to show another doctor to assess his condition. The nurses reacted incredibly to this situation and threatened the mother, saying, "We won't let you see the children," and that is how our story began.

My close friend Menekşe Kadiz was taken into labor in April 2023 at Esenyurt Reyap Hospital while 34 weeks and 5 days pregnant, and her twins were born. After the birth, hospital officials placed the babies in intensive care. Since the babies were born weighing over 2 kilos, were not intubated, and had no specific health problems reported to us, we couldn't understand why they were in intensive care.

'I REQUESTED THE TEST RESULTS'

After witnessing this argument over the phone, I called the hospital and introduced myself. I said I wanted to speak with the doctor or whoever was in charge. They gave me an appointment for Dr. Fırat Sarı. When I went to his office, I told him that the nurses' threats were meaningless.

I asked, "I have some knowledge about premature births; why are these babies staying here so long, and what are their issues?" I said, "If you give me their reports and test results, I want to show them to my own doctor (I even gave the name, saying you surely know them)."

He gave me a lot of double-talk using medical terms and said the babies' condition was improving. He said, "There is nothing to worry about; the mother can see her babies whenever she wants." We insisted on the test results, and he politely said with positive phrasing that he would take care of it.

'IF I WEREN'T A JOURNALIST...'

When our conversation ended, the doctor left the hospital while talking on the phone. If I weren't a journalist, didn't have knowledge about premature babies, and hadn't stood by my friend, they would have been treated just like the other patients' relatives.

Perhaps the babies would have had other problems. Following this incident, the twins were discharged. When they came home, they recovered quickly with normal care, breast milk, and formula.

Thank God, both of our babies are now one and a half years old, healthy, and doing well. Now, seeing the terrible news coming out, we realize that we snatched the babies from the hands of a monster...

MOTHER MENEKŞE KADİZ: 'WE ARE GRATEFUL BUT...'

The mother of the twins, Menekşe Kadiz, described what she went through: "I gave birth to my twins at Esenyurt Reyap Hospital. My son was born at 2 kilos 500 grams, and my daughter at 2 kilos 200 grams, and they were put in incubators.

I wanted to speak with Dr. Fırat Sarı, but they kept telling me he was in Çorlu or that he only came to the hospital in the mornings. I saw something strange with my son and panicked. I went to see him again that evening, and my son was still sleeping in the same position.

All the babies were sleeping; none of them were making a sound. This situation scared me even more, and I took a video to show another doctor. I was threatened by the nurses and staff that I would never see my child again.
