IYI Party Organization President Hasan Toktaş has become the target of backlash due to a post he allegedly made in a WhatsApp group created for the party's provincial chairs.
It was alleged that Toktaş sent a photograph of CHP Osmaniye MP Asu Kaya to the group and used the phrase "I'll buy you this, king."
DREW MAJOR BACKLASH
While Toktaş's remarks quickly circulated on social media, they were described by users as sexist and vulgar. The post drew backlash from a wide segment of the public, especially women.
Following the incident, a statement came from Hasan Toktaş. Toktaş used the following expressions in his post:
"I am watching with sadness as ugly fabrications, lies, and slanders targeting me are being spread on social media and some press outlets.
In a post allegedly made by me in a WhatsApp group,
the ugliness constructed over a photograph of CHP Osmaniye MP Ms. Asu Kaya is one of the most concrete examples of the dirty tricks in politics.
I state with certainty that;
That message, produced by dark hands, is a fabrication and the expressions do not belong to me.
I believe that no slander will ever stick to one whose intentions are always good.
Throughout my life, I have held the honor of our women in the highest regard.
Therefore, such an attribution being made to me has wounded not only me but also the collective conscience.
Such character assassinations have also been directed at other politicians belonging to opposition parties.
I know that this will neither be the first nor the last.
The goal of those who prepared this slander is to pollute politics, smear my character, and put my party in a difficult position before the public.
I would like to present to the knowledge of our nation that;
Preliminary findings regarding the relevant photograph have revealed traces of digital forgery.
Therefore, I have requested a more detailed technical examination and I will follow the process to the end on legal grounds.
I would also like to emphasize the sadness I feel that the name of our MP, Ms. Asu Kaya, has been involved in a setup woven against me.
Let the slanderers be sure of this;
I will not leave this matter here. I will not allow anyone to engage in politics through insults, fabrications, and lies, or to attempt character assassination.
The truth will emerge, and the law will provide the necessary response."
