Is the brother of the terrorist in the TUSAŞ attack a municipal employee? Statement from İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tugay

Following the termination of the employment of D.A., who worked as a security supervisor at the Çiğli Municipality and is the brother of Mine Sevjin Alçiçek—one of the PKK terrorists who carried out the terror attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ)—it has emerged that another brother of Alçiçek is employed as a driver at the İZENERJİ A.Ş. Social Services Department.

İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay stated, "We have placed the individual on leave. We have written to the Governor's Office. We asked whether there is any objection to this person's employment."

In the terror attack on October 23 against TUSAŞ, which is located in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara and holds an important place in the development of domestic weapons systems, 5 people were martyred and 22 people were injured, 2 of them seriously.

It was stated that D.A., the brother of the İzmir-born terrorist Mine Sevjin Alçiçek, who was neutralized by security forces, worked as an armed security supervisor at the Çiğli Municipality.

D.A., who was hired during the term of Metin Solak, who passed away on May 1, 2011, had his employment contract terminated by the municipality.

It was revealed that Alçiçek's other brother also works as a driver at the İZENERJİ A.Ş. Social Services Department.

"WE WROTE TO THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE"

İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay made statements to members of the press before the opening ceremony of the Selçuk Bus Terminal.

Stating that they have written to the İzmir Governor's Office regarding the brother of one of the terrorists who carried out the terror attack on TUSAŞ, who is employed at İZENERJİ A.Ş., Mayor Tugay said, "This person started working at İZENERJİ many years ago. We have not seen any negative behavior regarding him.

However, when a first-degree relative is the perpetrator of such a serious terror attack, we have placed the individual on leave. We wrote to the Governor's Office. We asked whether there is any objection to this person's employment. Whatever is necessary will be done according to the response we receive from there," he said.

"THERE IS AN ONGOING LEGAL PROCESS"

Tugay also made a statement regarding the operation of the İzmir Bus Terminal, which was transferred to the municipal subsidiary İZELMAN A.Ş. by the decision of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipal Council, saying, "There is an ongoing legal process. If it concludes, İZELMAN will either operate it itself from now on, or it could be given to a private operator if a trusted environment is established. However, in any case, a radical study will be conducted regarding the bus terminal. We are waiting for the legal process to be completed for this."
