It has been announced that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and will undergo surgery today as part of his treatment.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection a few days ago.
It was stated that the 75-year-old leader is being treated for an infection caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia and has responded positively to antibiotics.
CORRUPTION TRIAL POSTPONED
Netanyahu's lawyer, Amit Hadad, stated that the prime minister will remain in the hospital for a few days following the surgery.
For this reason, Netanyahu's testimony in his corruption trial, which was scheduled to take place today at the Tel Aviv District Court, has been postponed. The court announced that the hearings will resume on Monday, January 6.
During Netanyahu's recovery period, Justice Minister Yariv Levin will serve as acting prime minister. Defense Minister Israel Katz will assume the chairmanship of the political-security cabinet.
Netanyahu's health status and the course of the trial are being closely followed by the Israeli public.
