The massive price hikes have driven consumers toward the use of bootleg alcohol.
Since the beginning of the new year, an increase has been recorded in deaths resulting from the consumption of bootleg alcohol. A statement on the matter also came from the Istanbul Governor's Office.
In the statement made by the Istanbul Governor's Office, the following expressions were included:
"In the last 48 hours, 23 people have lost their lives in Istanbul due to the use of bootleg alcohol; the number of those who have lost their lives due to bootleg alcohol consumption since January 1st has reached 34."
