The local people have revolted, stating that the state stands by the hotel owners and has turned a blind eye to the usurpation of their rights.

REACTION TO FOREST AND FIELD SEIZURE

According to information obtained from the villagers, the hotel owners purchased a 16,500-square-meter plot of land from the Karacasu Municipality in 2005 and built the 5-star Gazelle Resort Hotel there.

However, the hotel, which opened in 2012, soon found the existing area insufficient and set its sights on the adjacent forest land. 20,000 square meters of forest land were occupied and converted into parking lots, walking paths, and playgrounds.

VILLAGERS' PASTURES ALSO TAKEN AWAY

Not content with the forest occupation, the hotel management then set its sights on areas used by the villagers as roads, fields, and pastures. As a result of applications made to the Ministry of Forestry, the neighboring forest area was declared a 'recreation area' and leased to the hotel management.

The leased area was expanded to 200,000 square meters by the end of 2022. This forest area was turned into ATV trails and entertainment zones that can only be used by hotel guests.

REACTION TO STATE SUPPORT FOR BOSSES

The aggrieved villagers expressed their reactions by saying, "We cannot enter our fields or our pastures. Those who govern the state stand by the hotel bosses. Our complaints yield no results. Neither we nor our animals can reach the lands inherited from our grandfathers."
