Istanbul was shaken at 12:49 PM by a 6.2-magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in the Sea of Marmara.
AFAD announced the depth of the earthquake as 6.92 kilometers. The earthquake was felt intensely throughout the entire Marmara Region.
Following the earthquake, phone lines collapsed, and serious disruptions occurred in communication. Citizens who were in their homes and workplaces in various districts of Istanbul panicked and rushed into the streets. People gathered in open areas are hesitant to return to buildings due to the fear of aftershocks.
While students in schools were quickly taken out to the gardens, some patients receiving treatment in hospitals were evacuated to open areas. Public transportation vehicles across the city experienced short-term stoppages.
