1) The biggest regret of my life
These are the most difficult minutes I have spent at the keyboard.
It is time to talk about some truths that I have been unable to admit to myself for years and have kept bottled up inside…
Sometimes people find strange ways to cope with life. They invent all sorts of defense mechanisms.
2) While shouting at the top of their lungs for others, they always stay silent for themselves, bottling it all up inside.
For many, many long years, I have lived within a spiral of psychological, physical, and economic violence of dimensions you could not even imagine.
3) Throughout my marriage, I covered up the violence and the horrific levels of manipulation I was subjected to, telling myself that I should not leave this story as a legacy to my children, that they should not be associated with such a thing, and that my own victimization should not overshadow my work.
4) My biggest regret is that I remained silent for so long, as if what I experienced was my own fault.
I tried to cope with the violence I was subjected to on my own.
For years—except for what they witnessed themselves—I did not even share these with my family.
There are only two exceptions to this…
5) My sister Lalehan Gülle and my lawyer Gözde Egemen
@gozdegemen
. Both of them are witnesses to everything…
For years, I didn't dare to get a divorce out of fear.
I know that I called the police to the door for protection, and when they arrived, I gave up and sent them away, thinking we would become news and the children would be negatively affected.
6) Now I open and look through the drawers, there are the divorce petitions from 2019 that Gözde and I prepared... I haven't been able to file any of them...
7) Finally, last year, I gathered the courage to file a lawsuit just to escape this violence and torture, but I was threatened again and forced to accept the divorce terms imposed on me.
However, even after the divorce, I could not escape the violence, my dear fellow women…
8) I have been unable to escape being insulted, slandered, and threatened every single day.
But I will no longer remain silent.
I am initiating the necessary legal processes.
My faith in the law and justice is absolute.
If there are women who empathize with me, I say to them: I understand you very well, but please, do not remain silent!
9) As long as you remain silent, the violence continues. It continues even if you get divorced.
10) Raise your voice against men who see you as their own property, as a puppet they can control, who trample your self-confidence by belittling you, who raise a hand against you, who exploit the efforts you have accumulated over years, and who take away all the earnings you have gained in return for your work.
11) Let's raise it...
Let's say stop.
Let's say enough...
Enough!
