In a study conducted by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera regarding 17 airports in Europe, Istanbul Airport ranked as the most expensive airport in terms of average food and beverage prices. The list, in which Istanbul Airport took the top spot by a wide margin, became a trending topic on social media.

According to the report in Duvar, research conducted by Italian Corriere della Sera reporter Leonard Berberi revealed record price lists at European airports. In the study, 17 airports were visited, and photographs of basic food and beverage items were taken to calculate their averages in euros.

According to the research, while half-liter bottles are not available at many airports, the record was seen at Istanbul Airport, where an average of 6 euros is paid for half a liter of Evian water. The average price was noted as 5.9 euros in Berlin, 4.75 euros in Frankfurt, 4.6 euros in Brussels, and 4.5 euros at London Luton.

Similar prices are also notable for coffee. At Istanbul Airport, there is an average price of 6 euros for an espresso or 9 euros for a cappuccino.

"Istanbul Airport in Turkey, which is also an important hub for those flying intercontinentally, is setting another record that is hard to break," the report stated, noting that a plain croissant averages 16.5 euros, and ham and cheese sandwiches also have an average price of 16.5 euros. While orange juice prices are at their lowest in Palermo with a minimum of 3.1 euros, these prices can go up to 8 euros in Istanbul.

IGA, which operates Istanbul Airport, responded to Corriere della Sera by stating, "We have a variety of products that adapt to every customer's budget. We would like to state that our pricing policy is based on the world's most important airports. We use Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Dubai, Frankfurt, and London (Heathrow) as references. Costs are determined within the framework of national and international criteria, and necessary inspections are carried out meticulously by evaluating customer expectations."
